Copyright & Licensing — Globenix Publisher
- Policy summary
Globenix Publisher is committed to open access and transparent rights management. Our default publishing model uses a liberal Creative Commons license (CC BY 4.0 International) that maximizes reuse, discoverability, and compliance with major funders and indexing services. Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the Publisher a non-exclusive license to publish and preserve the version of record.
Key points:
- Default license: CC BY 4.0 International (unless a journal states otherwise).
- Authors retain copyright.
- License to Publish (LTP) is required after acceptance to grant the Publisher rights to publish, distribute, assign DOIs, and deposit in archives.
- Third-party material: Authors must obtain and document permission for copyrighted third-party content.
- Text & data mining (TDM): Permitted under CC BY; otherwise request permission.
- Copyright ownership vs. license
Globenix Publisher follows the principle that authors should retain copyright where possible. After acceptance, authors are asked to complete a License to Publish (LTP) giving the Publisher the non-exclusive right to publish and preserve the article. This approach preserves authors’ ability to reuse, post, and share their work while allowing the Publisher to manage DOI registration, archiving, indexing metadata, and distribution.
Why LTP (recommended) rather than full transfer?
- Keeps authors’ moral and economic rights intact.
- Facilitates compliance with funder open access mandates.
- Simplifies reuse and deposition by authors and institutions.
- Supports indexers that prefer clear, open licensing.
If, for a specific journal or special arrangement, a full Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) is required, that will be clearly stated on the journal’s For Authors page.
- Default license: CC BY 4.0 International
Unless otherwise stated on a specific journal page, articles accepted for publication by Globenix Publisher are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
What CC BY 4.0 means (brief):
- Anyone may copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercially.
- Users must give appropriate credit to the original authors, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
- No additional permission is required for reuse beyond correct attribution.
This license maximizes discoverability and compatibility with funder and institutional mandates (e.g., many funders require CC BY for compliance).
Attribution example (required):
Smith, A., & Kumar, R. (2025). Title of article. Journal Name, 1(1), 1–12. Licensed under CC BY 4.0. DOI: 10.xxxx/xxxxxx
- Alternative licenses (exceptions and options)
In rare or justified cases (for example, when third-party material prevents full CC licensing), a more restrictive Creative Commons license (e.g., CC BY-ND, CC BY-NC) may be applied, but only after clear justification and with transparent notice on the article. Authors should discuss license exceptions with the Editorial Office prior to finalizing licensing.
Important: Choosing a restrictive license may limit reuse and can affect compliance with some funders and indexing services. Globenix recommends CC BY where possible.
- License to Publish (LTP) — what authors grant
After acceptance, corresponding authors will be asked to sign a License to Publish (electronic signature is accepted). Typical LTP provisions include:
- The author(s) retain copyright.
- The author(s) grant Globenix Publisher a non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide license to publish, reproduce, distribute, adapt, and make the article available in all formats and media (including electronic) under the article’s stated Creative Commons license.
- The Publisher is authorized to register DOI(s), deposit the article in repositories and indexing services, create metadata, and carry out preservation activities.
- Authors warrant that the article is original, that they hold the necessary rights, and that necessary permissions for third-party content have been obtained.
(See sample LTP wording at §12 below.)
- Copyright transfer (if explicitly required)
If a specific journal within Globenix requires transfer of copyright (rare and only when necessary), the journal’s submission information will specify this and provide a Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA). Authors will be informed in the acceptance letter and provided the CTA to sign. The Publisher will explain the implications and provide alternatives where possible.
- Third-party material & permissions
Authors must ensure they have the necessary permissions for any material they did not create themselves (e.g., figures, tables, photographs, extensive quotations, datasets under restrictive licenses). Requirements:
- Identify third-party material in captions or text and cite the source.
- Obtain written permission for reuse in an open access publication — permission must explicitly allow publication under the journal’s license (e.g., CC BY distribution).
- Upload evidence of permissions during submission or at acceptance. Failure to provide permissions may delay publication or require removal/replacement of the material.
The Publisher can assist in identifying whether requested reuse is compatible with the article’s license and advise on suitable alternatives (e.g., author-created replacement image).
- Author self-archiving (green OA) & preprints
Globenix Publisher supports author self-archiving to increase access and discoverability.
- Preprints (author’s original manuscript): Authors may post preprints to recognized servers (e.g., arXiv, SSRN) before submission. Authors must declare preprints at submission and cite the preprint in the manuscript. Preprints do not count as prior publication.
- Accepted manuscript (post-print): Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript (peer-reviewed, accepted version) in institutional or subject repositories. Under the default CC BY model deposit can be immediate and without embargo. If a different license or embargo applies, it will be stated in the acceptance letter.
- Version of Record (VoR): The final published PDF and HTML (VoR) are the Publisher’s formatted versions. Authors are free to link to or share the VoR per the article’s license.
Always include the article DOI and publisher citation when depositing or sharing versions.
- Text & Data Mining (TDM)
Under CC BY, TDM activities are explicitly permitted. For articles under more restrictive licenses, researchers wishing to carry out large-scale computational analysis should seek permission from Globenix Publisher or rely on rights granted by repositories where authors have deposited their accepted manuscripts.
- Embargoes & funder mandates
Globenix Publisher will comply with funder and institutional open access mandates. Where a funder requires a particular license or embargo period, authors must notify the Editorial Office at acceptance; the Publisher will note exceptions in the article metadata and implement any required embargoes or licensing clauses where feasible. Authors should check funder policy compatibility before accepting a license option that may restrict reuse.
- Metadata, indexing & machine readability
Globenix Publisher will publish comprehensive machine-readable metadata for each article (authors’ names, affiliations, ORCID iDs where provided, abstract, keywords, funding statements, license URI, and DOI) to support indexing, discovery, and compliance with indexing services. The license and copyright statements are included in metadata deposited with Crossref, DOAJ, and archiving services.
- Permissions to reuse published material (from Globenix)
Requests to reuse content published by Globenix (beyond what the article license permits) should be sent to permissions@globenixpublisher.com (or editorial@globenixpublisher.com if no dedicated address exists). Include:
- Article title, authors, DOI, and specific material requested.
- Intended use (commercial/non-commercial, distribution channel, language translations, adaptations).
- Timeframe and territory (if applicable).
The Publisher will respond with permission terms, any fees (if applicable), and an authorization statement. For CC BY content, most reuses only require correct attribution and no special permission.
- Takedown, corrections & DMCA requests
Globenix Publisher will respond promptly to legitimate takedown or removal requests grounded in law (e.g., copyright infringement). Procedures:
- Submit a detailed request to editorial@globenixpublisher.com (subject: “Takedown Request — [Article DOI]”) and provide evidence.
- The Publisher will acknowledge within 5 business days and investigate.
- If the request is legally valid, the Publisher will take appropriate action (correction, removal, or content labeling) and notify relevant parties.
- Authors may be asked to supply documentation supporting continued availability (e.g., permission letters for third-party material).
Note: The Publisher preserves the scholarly record; removal is a last resort and will be accompanied by a notice (e.g., “content removed under legal order”).
- Commercial licensing & reprints
Commercial reuse beyond the scope of the article license (for example, bulk reprints, inclusion in commercial anthologies under different terms) may require a separate license. Contact permissions@globenixpublisher.com with details to obtain a commercial license or reprint agreement.
- Moral rights & author attribution
Authors retain moral rights (where applicable) including the right to be identified as the author and to object to derogatory treatments of their work. The Publisher will make best efforts to ensure accurate author attribution and to correct any errors in author names or affiliations.
- Sample License to Publish (LTP)
Authors may copy/paste and adapt this sample into the publisher’s LTP form:
License to Publish
Article title: _____________________________________
Journal: _________________________________________
Manuscript ID: ___________________________________
By signing this License to Publish, the corresponding author confirms that they are authorized to sign on behalf of all authors and that the manuscript has been accepted for publication by the named journal (Globenix Publisher).
- Copyright: The Author(s) retain copyright in the Work.
- License granted to Publisher: The Author(s) grant Globenix Publisher a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to publish, reproduce, distribute, and make the Work available in all forms and media now known or later developed, and to register a DOI and deposit the Work in indexing and archiving services.
- License to the public: The Work will be made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- Warranties: The Author(s) warrant that the Work is original, that they hold the necessary rights, and that third-party material included is used with permission.
- Signatures: Corresponding author (typed name): _____________________ Date: __/__/____
- Sample Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) — when required
If a journal requires full copyright transfer, the CTA will be explicit, but Globenix prefers LTP. Example CTA clause (for illustration only):
Copyright Transfer Agreement
By signing this document, the Author(s) transfer copyright in the Work to Globenix Publisher. In return, the Publisher agrees to publish and distribute the Work. The Publisher grants the Author(s) a non-exclusive license to reuse their material for non-commercial purposes with proper attribution.
Authors should consult the Editorial Office if a CTA is requested and discuss alternatives where appropriate.
- Practical guidance for authors (checklist)
- Decide whether you can publish under the default CC BY license. If you have third-party material with restrictions, contact the Editorial Office before acceptance.
- Keep permission letters for any reproduced material and upload them at acceptance.
- Include a Data Availability Statement and indicate a repository where data are deposited (share a DOI if available).
- When sharing versions (preprint, accepted manuscript, VoR), always include a citation and DOI to the published version.
- If your funder requires a particular license, inform the Editorial Office at acceptance so metadata and the article license can reflect this.
- Contact for rights, permissions & licensing queries
